History and Vision

New Horizon Calvary Chapel first met in Pastor John and Liz’s home in the summer of 2003 and quickly moved to local hotel meeting rooms.  As New Horizon grew in size, multiple venues were rented to accommodate the growth and ministry.

In the midst of plans to secure a more permanent location, Hurricane Katrina visited Slidell with impressive force and destroyed the banquet hall where we met along with our sound equipment and other furniture and supplies.  The Lord provided a great facility for us to renovate after the storm which is our current location on Pontchartrain Drive (Hwy. 11), which is a main thoroughfare through Slidell.  Our current facility provides over 27,000 square feet of space which can be used for ministry for all ages and includes professionally designed and decorated children’s ministry rooms, a 24 ft. high rock climbing wall for teenagers, a bookstore & cafe, church administrative offices and a worship center that can seat over 350 people.

Our Vision is to build a model New Testament church that embodies God’s biblical purpose and provides life transformational ministries for all who are involved  We are committed to meeting the real needs of people both domestically and on the foreign mission field with the gospel and love of Jesus Christ.

We are now looking forward to advancing the Great Commission with the help of an incredible ministry asset.  The FCC has granted a license to New Horizon to build out a 100,000 watt full-power fm Christian radio station which will be housed within our current facility.”The Bridge Radio” will be broadcast on 88.7 fm on your radio dial and will serve over one and a half million people in our potential listening audience. The Bridge Radio contour will reach beyond Hammond to the West and beyond Gulfport, Mississippi to the East.  It will cover from beneath New Orleans to the South and northerly to Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Our vision includes the foundation of a non-denominational Christian School on the North Shore as well as a church sponsored Discipleship Training Academy for adults.  Our current ministry for small groups is called L.I.F.E. Groups, which represents groups that meet for any of the following objectives: Learning, Intercessory prayer, Fellowship and Evangelism.

From the infancy stage of New Horizon to the present, the Lord has brought wonderful people together to use their ministry gifts in His service.  New families continue to discover New Horizon Calvary Chapel and embrace our motto, “Jesus is Alive and All Things are Possible”
